Ideas?

I want to suggest 3 things to the alums here in DFW and elsewhere, one is club-related and the other two relate to us.
First of all, several of us (Clinton, Ivey, Shanks, JVoss, Ed, and me among others) have met a few times to discuss CONTINUITY in club. For instance, this year and in previous years the current members of GSP have no idea what to do about Homecoming Breakfast. No invitations, no news, nothing is thought out or prepared in regards to this event. This is OUR homecoming and thus the current memebrs should be doing all sorts of things, as we did in the past; and so the thought is to create a Continuity Team that acts as a club sponsor abroad, to remind and to encourage activites, etc.
Would you be willing to this and if so, would you be willing to meet via email or this blog or in person soon to discuss it?

Secondly, is there any interest in creating a GSP Sing Song weekend alumni breakfast? The group of guys listed above have met for breakfast, Sing Song weekend off and on for the last 4-5 years to discuss club and ways in which we could be supportive from afar, but the idea of having 2 breakfasts seems a logical one. There are a lot of guys from around the state of Texas and elsewhere who attend Sing Song, who may not make it for breakfast every year.
We could look into prices of something on-campus or we could book the big room in back at the Towne Crier?
Whose game for our 1st Annual GSP/Kinsmen Sing Song Breakfast?

Finally, is anyone interested in creating a nationwide/worldwide GSP alumni page? I spoke with some old-school fellas over the weekend, and they requested a nationwide site...or maybe a nationwide blog?

Alumni Participation

Over the years several people have talked about ways that alumni can assist the active members and sponsors back in Abilene. I really think we should open the book to new brainstorming and implementation of these ideas. For many years I didn't really feel like I owe anything to club as did pay my dues, most of the time, when my loan check would arrive.

Some big ideas that have been discussed in the past are:
  • Scholarships, but this will require a lot of work. There would have to be an over-site committee, rules would need to be established about what criteria for who qualifies for the scholarship(s). Not impossible but will require time.
  • Another alum activity would be to help sponsor breakfast at a real facility like the Abilene Country Club or Fairway Oaks Country Club.
  • How about an alum sponsored social, I know we always struggled to afford a nice social and we never hosted a formal so why not have alum sponsored formal? We could even open it up to alums and their spouses?
Post some additional ideas and get some of your buddies to join our blog so they can comment as well.

GSP Alum Activity Soon?

Cody T. says we should plan on something sooner than later, before we all get to busy and Wade becomes a daddy. How about BBQ and whoever can meet at the Spring Creek in Grapevine?
Or the original Babe's in Roanoke?
When?

Is it time yet for another DFW GSP gathering?

I know we're in the midst of footabll season and deer season (bow0hunting is current, and rifle starts in 3+ weeks), but what are the chances we can try again for another group gathering?

Let's go with the same place or ???

Cody and Chris, you're thoughts?

Do you know where your BROTHERS are?

KINSMEN CALL!

Homecoming Breakfast 2006

I talked to Ed yesterday, and the current members/officers forgot to send out invitations, etc on time, and instead managed to get something in the mail Saturday afternoon, so if you were expecting an invitation it should be there by now.
I suggested to Ed that we do something as alums to encourage the guys to get this done on time in the future, and Ed stated that he and the other advisors/sponsors spoke this up weeks in advance, but unfortunately they dont have Belcher. Nic can you go back and be the HR sponsor for club? Get the right guys in, explain functions and act as disciplinarian when necessary, and YES you can use Sparky on disillusioned members who cant perform there job duties or live up to expectations.
We need to figure out a way for those guys to work that list constantly and consistently, maybe they need to watch tapes of the 1991 Michigan Baseketball season, and see Mr. Consistency, Sean Griffin in action!
The point here is for us to find a way to help the members invite us to town, and to start a website (that maybe we keep up along with club historian each year); and finally a semesterly newsletter of what is going on in club. Remember when Ricky would send these out each summer to the guys, with a top 10 list and all.

So, that's Homecoming Breakfast in the Bean Sprout at 6:30am this Saturday, October 14th, 2006.
See ya there.
